“Well behaved women seldom make history.”
The above is a quote that greets you as soon as you enter the building of our offices at 54 St James Street. For the past few years, JCS Cleaning NW Ltd has been able to call The Women’s Org in Liverpool its home and, as today is International Women’s Day, we feel it’s only right we take this opportunity to pay homage to an organisation that’s been empowering women in business for the past twenty years.
More than 50,000 women have had their lives changed since The Women’s Organisation started up way back in 1996. The social enterprise began life as Train 2000 and now, twenty years on and based in the Baltic Triangle, the award winning organisation provides a wide range of services for women looking to start or develop their business ideas. JCS Cleaning NW Ltd is just one of the many SMEs that has been provided office space from The Women’s Organisation at their gorgeous 54 St James Street headquarters.
Speaking to The Liverpool Echo, chief executive Maggie O’Carroll, reflected: “When I moved to Liverpool the level of unemployment among women was shocking. There was next to no childcare provision locally and women were definitely not being taken seriously as potential entrepreneurs.
“Now we are seeing far more women in employment and enterprise. Yes we still face challenges of women being underemployed, but the culture is shifting and we can now see more women as business owners and employers.”
We’ve still a long way to go but with enterprises like The Woman’s Organisation championing and helping females, we may just get there a little faster than we thought.
Here’s to another fantastic twenty years, and many more.
Happy International Women’s Day.
